A long time ago, the universe was void and formless except for at it's very Center where all life began. 

To bring order from chaos, eight gods were birthed from the Center of Creation and each was given a powerful and terrible weapon of duality. These weapons were designed to being balance to all things; by enabling life as well as destroying it. 

Each god could do nothing without the consent of the others; thus the Great Balance came into being as they learned to work together to harness and contain the powers of the Center of Creation. Each god had a direct connection to the Center and were all linked to one another in a cosmic chain of power and command.
